    <Registration>

    〇A library card (“Riyo card”) is required to borrow books.

    〇The library card is free for anyone who lives, works or attends school in Kokubunji City. Residents of Fuchu City, Kunitachi City, Kodaira City or Tachikawa Cuty are also eligible. (No age limit)

    〇Residents of Fuchu City, Kunitachi City, Kodaira City or or Tachikawa Cuty need to have a library card for Kokubunji City when they use Kokubunji City Librarys. Library cards for Fuchu City. Kunitachi City, Kodaira City or or Tachikawa Cuty canonot be used at Kokubunji City Libraries

    〇Registration for the library card is available at any Kokubunji City Library

    〇Bring personal identification (such as Resident Card, driver’s license, health insurance card, or student ID) with your name and present address.

    〇Those who work in Kokubunji City or attend school in Kokubunji City need to present personal identification that verifies place of employment or school attendance in Kokubunji City.

    〇Fill out an application form for registration

    〇Once a library card is issued, it can be used at any Kokubunji City library.

    〇Please be careful not to lose your card.

    〇 You may obtain a password and reserve for books using designated computer terminals at the library or through the library’s website (also available on mobile phones)

    You may also confirm the status of borrowed items and requested items online.

    <Borrowing>

    〇Bring the books or CDs to be borrowed with your library card to the borrowing counter.

    〇You may borrow up to a total of 12 materials (books and magazines, including a maximum of 2 Big books) from all Kokubunji City libraries for a maximum of 2 weeks.
    (Residents of Fuchu City, Kunitachi City, Kodaira City or Tachikawa City may borrow up to a total of 5 materials for 2 weeks)
    You may borrow up to a total of 2 CDs from all Kokubunji City libraries for 2 weeks.
    (Residents of Fuchu City, Kunitachi City, Kodaira City or Tachikawa City may borrow up to a total of 1 CDs for 2 weeks)
    〇The latest issue of magazines are only available in the library (In-library use).
    〇The starting date for borrowing is shown on the cover of newly issued magazines. (Please call the library to check the starting date of borrowing. This is not available online).

    <Renewing>
    〇If another user has not placed a reservation on the materials you have borrowed, you can renew the materials once for an additional 2 weeks from the time of notification.

    〇A renewal request can be made from four days before the original due date.

    〇You can renew your overdue materials for another 2 weeks starting from the original due date. You cannot renew the overdue materials for more than 2 weeks.
    You will need your library card at the counter for renewal.

    Materials may be renewed by telephone (you will need your library card number, your name and address). Users who have registered a password can renew the materials online using the library’s website or designated computer terminals at the library.

    CDs and Big books cannot be renewed.

    Materials borrowed from another city cannot be renewed using Kokubunji City library’s website or designated computer terminals at Kokubunji City libraries. Renewal is available in person or by telephone to the library.

    <Returning>

    Materials borrowed from one of the Kokubunji City Libraries may be returned at the counter of any Kokubunji City Library (Your library card is not required when returning materials).
    The library also offers Book Return Boxes (“Book Post”) located at the entrance of Izumi Hall and at the Kokubunji Station North Exit Service Corner.
    When the library is closed, you can deposit the materials in the Book Return Box located outside the library entrance.
    (CDs cannot be returned in the Book Return Box because they are fragile. Materials borrowed from another city cannot be returned in the Book Return Box, either)
    You are responsible for returning borrowed materials on time.

    <Reservation>

    If the materials you need are on loan or if you cannot find them on the shelf, you may place a reservation. You will then be notified by telephone or email when your item is ready for pickup.

    You can choose “No notification is needed (連絡不要)” if you prefer to confirm the status of reserved items online yourself.

    When items you need are not available at any Kokubunji City Library, it may take a few days to confirm the availability of your reservation.

    You may place a reservation on up to 12 items (books and magazines including 2 oversize books) and up to 2 CDs.

    The latest issue of magazines cannot be reserved.

    Reservations will be held for 10 days (5 days for Big books) from the day following notification.

    Reservations not picked up within 10 days (5 days for Big books) from the time of notification will be canceled.

    Residents of Fuchu City, Kunitachi City, Kodaira City or Tachikawa City cannot place a reservation.


    <Reference Services>

    The library provides a wide variety of dictionaries, almanacs and reduced editions of newspapers in the reference room.
    We will be happy to assist you with your researching.

    <Researching your Community>

    Materials on Kokubunji City are mainly collected and kept by Koigakubo Library.

    <For Groups>

    Those registered as a group such as a community library, a private library, a class library, a company or a community group may borrow more books than the maximum limit.
    Please contact the library for details.

    <For the Blind and Physically Handicapped>

    We provide face-to-face reading services, recorded tapes of books, Braille and DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System). They are mailed postage-free to user’s homes.
    You may borrow equipment for listening to recorded tapes and DAISY.

    <Event>

    We offer story hours, screenings of movies and lectures.

    Please refer to “Story Hours (おはなしかい)” and “Lectures(講演会・講演)” on the top page for the event scheduled for this month. (Japanese)


    <Interlibrary access>

    Residents of Kokubunji City are eligible to use the libraries in Kunitachi City, Kodaira City and Tachikawa City. Your personal identification is required for registration.

    <The library has a strict privacy policy in place>

    Your personal data relating to registration, borrowing and returning materials is processed on the computer at the library. Data relating to any books that are checked out is deleted as soon as the books are returned.
